Hashes are the cryptography part of cryptocurrency, and are what makes a blockchain secure, verifiable, and unhackable. Cryptographic hashes can take inputs of variable length, but always output a fixed-length string of numbers and letters.
Most cryptocurrencies use SHA-265, which always outputs a 256-bit string regardless of whether the input is "hello" or an entire sentence.
